Fine Jaques Staunton Set Circa 1900 "Hartston-Marshall" type knight I am happy to offer a fine Jaques set. Both kings stamped "JAQUES LONDON", king side rooks & knights with crown stamps, pieces with green baize to bases. The set comes in original mahogany slide lid box, with burgundy lined velvet interior and Jaques paper trade label to lid. Underside of lid also with writing " Given to me by my mother October 1900" (see image) this helps in date the set at 1900 which also shows Alan Fesht's Jaques guide is very accurate as both set & label correspond with this date. The set is an interesting cross over of the Hartson to the Marshall style and less seen on the market than the Hartson or Marshall sets, as the time scale of manufacture being shorter.Label & design of the pieces would date this set to 1900, For further information on jaques please refer to the superb work "JAQUES STAUNTON CHESS SETS 1849-1939 A collectors guide".Kings 3 1/2" / 9cm Tall CONDITION The set is near perfect condition condsidering its age, all pieces are original to set, the baize to bases all match , the only damage is the box has a few chips to sides (see image)The set still retains its excellent original polished finish, no moisture or stain damage.
