These trunks were used for travel on ships, stage coaches and other early means of transportation. This is what gives these world travelers t "beauty marks", or the various nicks and scratches that are visible in the metal work and on the oak straps. I have refinished this wonderful heirloom by removing the worn and torn burlap cover and lightly steel wooling the wood underneath. I have also repainted the metal and the latches. The handle above the center latch has a very unique diamond design that I have tried to capture in the photos. I have further detailed the metal work in hand painted gold. The nails have been checked to make sure they are secure and also handpainted in gold. The inside was stripped of the wall paper and was lightly sanded. I then added three coats of polyurethane for durability. I have also added three coats of polyurethane to the outside. I replaced the leather straps with vintage leather to maintain the authenticity of this trunk.
