Wonderful sliding match safe or vesta, with a repoussse scene of continental merrymakers at the tavern. The deep relief scene is very detailed, with two men smoking pipes, a jug of beer on the floor and a bowl of fish on the table. The four figures to the foreground seem to be looking at the seated man, whose cloak drapes to the floor, as though he has just said something amusing. T is a smaller seated figure against the brick wall, who may be a woman. The scene is the same on both sides. T is very slight denting to the plain silver sides, and beautiful wear and patina to the scenes top and bottom consistent with age and use. No loss of detail. T is a worn striking surface to one end. It is stamped Â"830SÂ", which is a continental mark for 83% silver. This is likely early to mid 19 th C Dutch. Dimensions: 2 ½Â" X 1 ¾Â" X ½Â". In very good antique condition. We will be offering several tobacciana items this week in sterling, plate, and other metals, including some with extraordinary provenance. Please see Â"Seller Â' s Other ItemsÂ". ABOUT US WeÂ've been involved with antiques for many years. Please add us to your Â"Favorite SellersÂ" list if you like any item we have offered. We are likely to be offering a similar item within a few months at most. We sell what we like, and we will be offering many pieces from our own collections over the next while for the usual - moving and downsizing. Please ask your questions before bidding. We frequently do antique shows on weekends, so would appreciate it if youÂ'd ask questions Monday to Friday. We have always answered weekend questions, but please be patient. Shipping, Handling and Insurance We take the utmost care in packing our customersÂ' purchases. We ship worldwide. We invoice on Sundays and Mondays. Items are shipped at least weekly (and sometimes twice), generally on Wednesdays - we request you make payment for your purchases by Tuesday evening so we can ship to you in a timely manner, instead of making you wait for an additional week. Shipping and handling are at cost and will be quoted in advance to our customers on request. We ship Canada Post, as well as other shippers on request. WE WILL HAPPILY COMBINE SHIPPING ON ITEMS PURCHASED WITHIN A WEEK OF ONE ANOTHER. Just let us know your intentions. Shipping times for surface are as follows: US/Canada 1-2 weeks; UK 4-6 weeks; Europe/Australia 6-12 weeks. We can assure you that air transit is far superior to surface, and the cost is generally only slightly higher. Sometimes shipments from Canada can take a bit of time, but we can assure they are worth the wait! Shipping costs from our part of the world can be higher than domestic costs in the US, and particularly within Canada. Please donÂ't be shy about asking for a quote before you bid. We will insure your purchases in transit on request at $1.50 per $100 value ($100 value minimum). We will self-insure up to $20.00 value maximum. Payment Payment is expected within 7 days of auction closing. We prefer PayPal, but will accept INTERNATIONAL money orders. Personal cheques are a problem for everyone, as they can take weeks to clear, and your shipment will be accordingly delayed. Any questions we havenÂ't answered? Ask us!! Thanks for looking and thanks for your consideration. |
