Art Nouveau Sterling Silver Organically Shaped Epergne, Flower Vase or Table Centerpiece dated 1905 This Superb Antique Epergne or Table Centerpiece measures approximately 7 inches or 178 mm across from the outer rim of one side trumpet to the other, the central trumpet is 3 1/2 inches or 89 mm across the widest part of its upper rim from side to side and each of the side trumpets measure approximately 5 3/8 inches or 137 mm in length by 2 1/4 inches or 56 mm across the widest part of its upper rim from side to side, the base is 3 7/8 inches or 98 mm across its width or diameter from side to side and the epergne, v ase or table centerpiece stands 11 5/8 inches or 295 mm tall to the top rim of its central flute or trumpets upper rim . The Epergne, Vase or Table Centerpiece is completely made from sterling silver with a tall central trumpet or flute that has an organically shaped bulbous top with a flared scrolling upper rim and it has a tapering round shape stem or lower body, the central trumpet or flute stands on a flared circular foot or base that has been weighted or filled for stability and it has a green baize or felt lining on its underside to help prevent the epergne , vase or centerpiece from scratching the surface that it's placed upon, the lower body of the central trumpet or flute has a bulbous bracket that holds each of the three removable matching flutes or trumpets and the epergne, vase or table centerpiece has Not been engraved with a previous owners initials or family monogram, this epergne, vase or table centerpiece has organic bulbous forms or shapes that are typically Art Nouveau in style all as photographed below and it has a total weight of 871.7 grams, the top of the base along with all three removable trumpets or flutes have been impressed with matching English sterling silver hallmarks that read as follows, J.G - Anchor - Lion Passant - f J.G is the Birmingham silversmith or makers mark of Joseph Gloster Ltd, the Anchor is the mark of the Birmingham assay office, the Lion Passant is the mark of English 925 standard sterling silver and the letter f is the date letter for 19 05 . The condition is used and Excellent for its age. The Epergne or Centerpiece has No Large Dents, No Splits, No Cracks, No Holes and No Repairs that I have found, the epergne stands straight, the definition and decoration are very crisp, the removable trumpets or flutes fit perfectly into their brackets or holders, the center and removable trumpets or flutes all hold liquid without leaking, the silver hallmarks are still legible although as the epergne, vase or table centerpiece is a used antique it does have the odd small shallow dent that is hardly worth mentioning along with some extremely minor surface marks and wear from use, it has the patina of age that is to be expected and a gentle clean would not go amiss. Personally I think that this antique three flute epergne, vase or table centerpiece can still be used today and that it will look amazing in the correct setting, I also think that it would make a superb addition to any collection and that the overall quality along with the condition is fantastic considering that it's almost 110 years old .
