Superb Edwardian Sterling Silver Mounted Green & Beige Leather Wallet by Frederick Wich dated 1906 This Superb Antique Money, Card & Stamp Wallet measures approximately 6 inches or 152 mm across its length from side to side by 4 inches or 102 mm across its width from the top to the front edge, it is 3/8 of an inch or 10 mm deep from back to front when empty and it is 8 inches or 204 mm across its width from side to side when it's laid fully open. The wallet is made from a green leather outer body in a book like shape with scroll shaped solid sterling silver corner mounts and it opens to reveal a soft beige leather interior that has two stamp holders either side of a calling or business card holder that are on the front of a cash or money holder, the opposite side of the internal wallet has another money or cash holder at the rear of a change or trinket holder that has a leather flap with a leather strap catch and the wallet has Not been engraved or personalized with a previous owners initials or family monogram all as photographed below, each of the silver corner mounts on the front have been impressed with matching English solid sterling silver hallmarks that read as follows, F.W - Anchor - Lion Passant - g F.W is the London silversmith or makers mark of Frederick Wich who is recorded as a leather goods manufacturer from 190 2 to 1912, the Anchor is the mark of the Birmingham assay office, the Lion Passant is the mark of English sterling silver and the letter g is the date letter for 1906. The condition is used and Excellent for its age. The Wallet has No Large Dents, No Splits, No Cracks, No Holes and No Repairs that I can find in its silver mounts, the leather is not torn, the wallet opens and closes perfectly with ease, the wallet is straight, the definition and decoration is crisp, the silver hallmarks are still legible, the interior leather compartments all open and close as they should with ease although as the wallet is a used antique the silver corner mounts do have the odd very small shallow dent and the edges of the leather outer body have some minor scuffs and wear, the internal leather is not torn although it has some surface and pen marks along with some wear from use, the wallet has the patina of age that is to be expected and as it is in the totally original condition that it was found a gentle clean would enhance it greatly. Personally I think that this antique wallet can still be used today and that it would make a superb addition to any collection, I also think that it is a wonderful piece of antique social history that looks fantastic considering that it's over 100 years old.
