RARE STIEGEL FLIP GLASS MUGS CIRCA 1795 is the thing - I believe that, after all the research done, these two mugs are the real thing. Apparently they can only be termed Stiegel type. I will explain why I think they are original Stiegel: 1. The mugs were bought at an estate auction with three other pieces of American Glass - Boston and Sanwich Glass Co. creamer and sugar, 2 pieces of New England Glass Company which you can see as they are currently up for auction. All these 3 items came identified with descriptions, either from books, or on paper. The descriptions proved correct. 2. These mugs came with two pieces of identification - a card from Shreve, Crump and Low Boston, on which is written Antique American flip glass , along with a written piece of paper saying "See Hunter's Stiegel Glass Illustration 122". Hunter is the author of "Baron Stiegel and American Glass published December 1913." 3. I have not been able to get a copy of the book, but doing research I was able to get a copy of Page 260 showing enameled, etched, and plain glass by Baron Stiegel. I have also included a picture from a Book called Glass which also shows the Stiegel mugs. 4. I contacted the Historic Manheim Preservation Foundation and sent them pictures of the mugs to ask if they would give me an opinion, I have a copy of the email which I could send read more
