A Decorated Stoneware Crock, 3-Gallon capacity, New York State origin, ca.1880. Impressed on the shoulder with a cobalt-washed maker's stamp: OTTMAN BRO'S / & CO / FORT EDWARD, N.Y. This mark was used by the brothers, William and Gilbert, roughly 1872-1892. See Internet for further information on this Upstate manufactory. A well-potted cylindrical form with tooled rim and applied lug handles. Front features a large Folk Art Bird on a sprig decoration in dark, Slip-Trailed Cobalt. Albany Slip interior. Condition: Slight wear and two shallow chips on the rim, one small chip on the left handle (rear) and one chip on the base (rear), as shown; otherwise Excellent. Note: The base chip appears to have occurred at the time of production (see close-up, photo #9). Minor glaze and firing anomalies, including two small stone pops, noted for descriptive accuracy. No cracks, repaired damage or restoration work. See photos for complete details and close-ups. Please consider them as part of the description. Measures approximately 11-1/4"W x 10-5/8"H overall with a base diameter of 10-1/2". The inner and outer rim diameters are 9-1/4" and 10-3/4", respectively; 12 lbs. Offered without reserve.
