ANTIQUE STONEWARE CROCK PITCHER COBALT STENCIL?

Up for auction is this Stoneware Crock Pitcher with Cobalt blue maybe stencil (but some of the lines look freehand and the diamonds are not all evenly shaped.) It is a 2 1/2 gallon pitcher. It is approximately 13 1/4 inches tall, 9 inches wide at the widest point on the body of the pitcher, with a 6 inch wide opening. This pitcher, I can only guess how old it is. Talking with family, everyone remembers it, but no one remembers how far back, we are all too young! Great grandmother had it sitting in her pantry and she died at the age of 85 in 1970. Maybe late 1800s early 1900s, when the family still had a milk cow and a spring house! I know they all moved to town before the depression in the 1920s, coal & railroads were more profitable than farming. We all moved back to the country 40 years later and made the farms suburbs! I am not a collector of crocks and the family said I could sell it if I get a good price for it so sorry folks it does have a modest reserve but it is still below what many are going for on ebay. It is not signed but does have a unique design in cobalt blue paint with swags, diamonds, various lines, dots and one circle of cobalt paint arond the handle. Some of the cobalt paint looks to be freehand, (on the pitcher spout, above the diamond design and on the handle.) The cobalt paint is raised in places w it is the heaviest. The way it is made I am sure someone out t might have an idea of the maker of this crock and age. I am sure this stoneware crock comes from the east. My kinfolk did not go far from this area even after moving to town, and prided themselves on trading with local vendors for a "good price". The only flaws this pitcher has looks like it may have been made in the manufacture process. On one side you can see in the photo this place and it looks like a chip but then the color around it looks like it happened possibly in the drying process. Part of the flaw has glaze and part doesn't. Another flaw at the diamond design and this one I don't know about, it looks like a thin chip (approximately 1/4 inch in length) but looks like the cobalt paint bled a bit at that spot so it may be part of the manufacture process too and another one of the diamonds looks odd but has glaze on it. (see first photo) T are no chips or cracks anyw else on it. My pictures make it look a lighter color than what it is. It is also more mottled coloring than in the photos. In real life it looks like it has this bluish gray underglaze and tannish brown (age?) on top. Almost like the color has been sponged on. The inside of the pitcher is dark brown slip and you can see w it doesn't completely cover on the bottom. Obviously that "kinfolk good price" accounts for that. This pitcher has it's own colorful character, just like my family. I accept paypal only on this item and this one is going to the UPS store to be packed and shipped UPS ground. It weighs too heavy ( approximately 9 pounds) and is a bit large for me to trust my own packing for shipment. The handling charge is to offset that cost. Insurance is required. Shipping to USA. Feel free to ask me any questions before bidding as I don't want this returned after selling it. Too precious a piece to be bouncing back and forth across the country. Thank you for looking and be sure to check out my eBay store for other unusual old items that need a new home. I was just asked if this pitcher has any hairline cracks which are hard to see. I checked it with a magnifying glass all over and I can't find one but what I did find was what looks like an inscribed date in the clay. It is so small 1/4 inch I never noticed it before and it is a bit hard to read it looks like 1877 to me. I have also been asked to open the bidding to money orders and cashiers checks as well as paypal. I have and payment is due within 7 days of auctions end. Thanks to the people who asked about hairline cracks. On Jan-04-07 at 19:49:08 PST, se...
