ANTIQUE / VINTAGE BASKET HILT SWORD AND SCABBARD ESTATE FIND This is a very unique sword found at an Estate Sale over the weekend. It was hanging above a doorway. The son indicated it was very old and he believed it was from the 18th or 19th century. He said his father paid a lot of money for it. I know nothing about swords so I can only offer my description and is as follows: The markings on this piece has "SPAIN" on one side of the blade. The other has what looks to be a sword outreached, then hands wrapped around the sword from the other end from the other person and a pool of maybe blood. It is very hard to make out due to the discoloration of the blade. The point of the blade is very sharp. The blade itself has some rust spots that can be buffed out. The scabbard is a little pitted and discolored throughout. I do believe it can be buffed out if desired. The basket hilt is brass and has a very ornate design. It has a leather protectant inside to shield the hand. The leather where once sewed is coming apart and the leather is stiff. The outside of the leather is a maroon color, the inside is brownish hide looking. This sword with scabbard measures 32". With the basket gilt and topper measures approximately 38 1/2". Please look at all the photos and supersize them for condition. If you need more pictures or have questions, read more
