Antique telephone in brass. The telephone is missing the mouth piece assembly and I would guess that t was originally a metal felt covered plate on the bottom of the base, also missing. Again I am not sure, the receiver, which was patented in 1913 and 1918, appears to be a replacement. Along with the patent dates are the words,"PROPERTY OF THE AMERICAN TELEPHONE AND TELEGRAPH CO." The phone stands about 12 inches high, with a base about 5 inches across. The brass shows no sigh of ever having been plated. I see no damage, however the finish is dirty and tarnished. Between the mouth piece and the base is is a black colored ring. This may be blued or painted brass and is in good condition. I believe that these phones date from the 1890's. The old or original fabric cord is still in place. It terminates in three separate wires which retain t original connectors. I have had this phone for many years and was once told that it is a phone that is best not used due to a shock hazard.
