ANTIQUE THOMAS EDISON MINING PERMISSIBLE ELECTRIC CAP LAMP This auction is for a unique and rare find - its an antique (age unknown...old!!) Thomas Edison Permissible Electric Cap Lamp in very nice condition. How or what its for is beyond me - sorry. This is a Model P Cap Lamp as noted on the one side that I didn't picture. Made in West Orange NJ USA but only for use in Canada and Newfoundland. Unit is in overall very nice shape and measures 5" x 8.5" x 1.5". The back looks like it has some sort of mounting straps, possible for a belt. Not sure if this is for mining for sure but based on my reasearch, I found another one for big money in horrible condition and they noted late 1800's and its a mining lamp. Comes as pictured below in excellent condition for age!!! Unit is very heavy for its small size so this is telling me that original batteries are still inside!!! I found this history which mentions Thomas Edison lights in mining on google if you want to read it: History mineral lamp Coal mining has always been dangerous.
