Greetings! This listing is for one very nice antique Tiemann medical tools kit, which I believe is an amputation kit. The wooden box includes FOURTEEN different tools. The label lists the address of Tiemann as 63 Chatham St., NY, which dates this set to 1855-1864. The pieces include: · Three amputation knives. One is single edged and 10” long, with a very slight hairline crack in the black diamond textured ebony handle, which is still very solid. The 13 ½ inch knife is double edged, and etched with “Tiemann” on the blade. The last one is 14 ½ inches long and is singled edged. The diamond patterned ebony handles on the latter two knives are in very good condition. The 10” and 14 ½” knives are not etched with “Tiemann” but have identical handles. · Two bone saws. One is straight and 8” long and single edged, with some rust on the blade. The other is 6 ½ inches long, shaped like a little hammer, with a little rust on the blade as well. Both of these pieces also have diamond textured black ebony handles. Both are etched with “Tiemann.” · Five small tools, each measuring 6” long. One is an all metal scalpel and file, which is rusted. It is not marked. The other four pieces, three scalpel type tools and one pick, have ivory or bone handles which are in very good condition. All four of them are marked “Tiemann.” · One gault trephine, which is brass with a wooden handle. It measures 5” long, and it not marked. · Two forceps, both of which are marked “Tiemann.” One pair measures 10” long and is straight, and ‘bullet’ type tips. This pair fits in the storage box. The other pair measures 11” long and are curved, with clamp type tips. They do not seem to fit in the storage box anywhere. · One curved brass rod with pointed tips. I believe this to be part of another set which happened to get put into this storage box. All of these tools are stored in a very nice hardwood, perhaps mahogany or walnut, box which measures 16” wide, 6” deep, and 3 ½” tall. The finish is very nice with minimal wear and tear considering the age of this item. The corners have brass caps and the edges have brass straps. The brass latches both work. The brass plate on the lid is engraved with “F S Kohler.” The box is lined with green velvet, and has a removable panel in the lid and a lift out tray in the bottom. As you can see, there are pieces missing from this kit. I ship all items within 24 hours or the next business day after your PayPal payment clears. This item will be shipped via USPS for $26 with insurance included. I am not an expert in antique medical tools, but I have done my best to accurately describe and identify these items.
