This is an ANTIQUE Sailing Pond Yacht Racer....When I first saw this I assumed it was a 50/800 Marblehead...But upon measuring it I found it to be a WHOPPING 60 INCHES LONG and 9 Feet Tall.....It was very beautifully made and has wonderful brass and metal hardware....The rudder assembly is a very impressive piece of engineering...It has the planked deck and fabric sails that are in good condition....The hull is hollow....The rigging is done, though I am not sure it is correctly rigged....It has a very heavy weighted keel and the sails appear to be able to be run up and down the mast...This boat was from and run in San Francisco competition at Golden Gate Park in Spreckles Lake with the San Francisco Model Yacht Club and came from the estate of the Spreckles family ...The rigging will be taken down in order to ship it, but I will include many photos so you can reference them to reassemble...This is definitely one of the nicest ANTIQUE Pond Boats I have ever seen...Spreckels Lake is located on the northern side of the park near 36 th Avenue. As the home waters of the San Francisco Model Yacht Club, one can usually find model yachts sailing on Spreckels Lake. Many of these are of the 'free-sail' type used before the advent of the modern types.The yachts are set up by their owners, and most include either anauxiliary wind vane or main sheet linkage to control the rudder in response to varying wind conditions. The yachts are then released, and pole handlers will walk down each side of the lake with a padded pole to prevent the yachts from colliding with the lake edge. The lake has been specifically designed for this type of operation, as it has a vertical edging (allowing the yachts to closely approach the shore) and a paved walkway around the entire edge....High Bidder Pays Shipping.
