ANTIQUE TROEMNER BALANCE SCALE circa 1900 Offered is a complete and original balance made by the famous Philadelphia company of Henry Troemner. I'm fairly certain it may be a Model 4, produced sometime between 1890 and 1910. It is surely an analytical balance, possibly used for pharmacy work. I concluded this because of the included weight set type and it's overall excellent condition. Balances used for laboratory work or in an industrial setting usually showed more wear. The mahogany case has it's original " French-finished " luster, a durable and glossy exterior finish that was popular during that period. Construction is a good example of the high standard of workmanship in those days. The cabinet work is of such fine detail that it is practically airtight. Overall case size is 19"W X 20"H X 11"D. It has a flawless polished stone base, with absolutely no chips, cracks, or stains. All the glass is original with the antique wavy appearance. The beam is cold-rolled aluminum, with graduated hash marks for the rider weights across it's full length. The 2 1/2" pans and bows are German nickel-silver, all other metal parts are solid brass. The front sash is counter-weighted, and floats in a weightless manner. The rear sash is removeable. The drawer has an old sticker explaining the original assembly instructions, also a cradle for storage of the beam. A complete balance weight set made of brass is included, ranging from 100 grams down to the fractional milligram pieces. Some of the brass weights have minor corrosion that I'm sure could be cleaned with ease. There are twenty-five weights in the set, including three very fine wire rider weights. The wet "bull's-eye" or target level works perfectly, adjusted by the four screw feet. The pan arrest system works as it should, in fact, the entire balance functions like new. I have had it calibrated, and the beam swings freely and occilates like new. It is accurate to 1/10th of a milligram. There is very faint lettering on the rear of the base, reading USVA. I have no idea what that would represent, perhaps the United States Veterans Administration? I do my own expert packing, and ship UPS Ground. PayPal please, and I would appreciate prompt payment. DO NOT pay until invoiced, shipping cost can not be determined until I get the winner's zip code. eBay shipping estimates are never accurate. This is a beautiful instrument, in excellent condition. It would display nicely where ever fine scientific instruments are appreciated. Please examine all the photos and review my feedback. I have sold many fine balances from my collection, this one is especially nice. Questions are welcome. Thanks for looking over my auction and good luck bidding.
