This is an iron tsuba for wakizashi or katana (7.4cm x 6.8cm), naru kakugata shape (very rounded rectagle) with design done in iroe takazogan (high positive relief), inlaid with gold, silver, shakudo (copper gold alloy) and shibuichi (silver copper alloy), dating to the mid-edo period (1700's). This piece, I am told, is the work of the Arikawa school of the Mito style. The theme of this tsuba is torii no matsu, a shrine amongst the pines, dedicated to Sumiyoshi Myochin, kami of sea, fish, and shells. Overall it is in absolutely excellent condition, and all of the brilliant detail and craftsmanship is immediately evident. This tsuba is 100% guaranteed to be authentic as described. FREE SHIPPING to the continental U.S. All others, please inquire. Thank you.
