This old saddle does not have the "Hess & Hopkins" makers mark on it, but it does have the unique, distinct signature tooling pattern that they used on their saddles. I have only seen this particular tooling pattern used on the Hess & Hopkins saddles. Usually Hess & Hopkins put their stamp on the front part of their hard seat saddles, but seeing as this one has a padded seat - perhaps that is why it is not marked. It does however have the number 1072 on the skirt underneath the left fender. This is a heavy saddle with a 15" - 15 1/4" seat, measured from the base of the horn to the top of the cantle.
