The Varityper (also known as the Vari-Typer or VariTyper) was a highly ingenious "word processor" of the pre-digital age. This machine could use over 300 different type styles and write in 55 languages; it could adjust the space between characters, and even produce right-justified copy. Even though the Varityper enjoyed a successful career of about 60 years, you may never have seen one, for the machine was not generally adopted as a standard typewriter. Instead, it found a niche as a "cold typesetting" or "office composing" machine: it was generally used to produce neat, camera-ready copy for offset printing, at a cost much lower than that of conventional printer's methods.I think this model is from around the 1930's This is a very rare typewriter. I am not very knowledgeable on how this antique typewriter works. It appears to be in very good condition for it's age. It is electric and has the original cord and plug. The cord is very brittle and I have not plugged it in because of the safety hazard. It also has a light with a bulb. I don't know if the bulb is in working order. The defects that I can see are: The letter "e" key is cracked and misshapen. The the top of an accessory button appears to be missing. See close-up photo. I only have done a light surface cleaning, so as to not ruin anything. This definitely needs to be refurbished to bring it back to working order. Please ask if you have any questions. I can also mail it USPS. The package will be approx. 36" x 22" x 24" and 39 pounds in weight my zip code is 53021. Ebay keeps telling me the dimensional weight exceeds the weight limit.
