This auction is for an antique in-laid wood box from a Baltimore Maryland Estate. The lady I received this box from, said it was from the late 1700's. The box may or may not be this old. I know it has a lot of age to it. The boxes finish is so old it has alligatored. This box is very solid and heavy. You can see on the sides w the trim needs re-glued, the piece is put together with tung and groove.This is a good size wood box. It measures 13 inches long by 8 inches wide by 5 inches high. T are 2 in-laid 6 point stars on the top of this box. The box has light in-laid wood banding around it. The box has a removable walnut tray .. Inside the lid of this box picture 6, t is a cut out scroll work storage compartment. The lid lifts up by the string. The string is just to show you w the compartment is. I was told this compartment was for quill pens. The box has the original lock and key. The top of the key is missing a piece of metal. The trim and inlay has come apart due to the age. The glue has dried out and came loose. I think I have most if not all of the pieces that need to be put back on. See pictures. This is a great old piece of Americana and with a little work can be brought back to it's former beauty. This box is a great piece for the box collector. The inlay on the top should clean up and look great with the contrasting light and dark wood. If you like old boxes, this one is for you. Don't miss it.
