This 21" Manhattan Brass student lamp has a RED milk-glass shade. It is stamped Manhattan Brass Co. NY on the burner along with three patent dates, the first May 23th 1876. Second, Dec. 25, 1877. Third, May 20, 1879. This lamp is electrified with an 8 foot cord and an inline switch. This is not one of those old, cheap cords that is dangerous to even think about plugging in. This is a newer cord. Has the original kerosene cannister. Valve works great and the spring is still intact. No holes.Adjustment screw is still on stem and works well. Base has a iron plate under the brass to make it heavy. Brass has patinaed nicely Could not find any marking on the shade. It is red with a stippled rays pattern. It measures 8 1/2 inches wide and 5 1/2 inches high. While the edges are rough feeling I don't see or feel any chips or cracks. I included 2 pictures of the shade. I don't know enough about these lamps to know if the shade is original. I know that if it is original then it is in fantastic shape which may be a clue whether it is original. It looks terrific with the lamp and has a nice glow when lit. If your asking me, I'm not going to commit either way. You will have to make the judgement if it is original or not because I'm selling "as is"As far as I can tell, other than the wiring, everything else is original. The only thing I see is read more
