We are pleased to offer you this fine old antique genuine carved ivory cigar holder, with fancy rose gold filled accents, in very good condition! Rose gold was used a lot in the latter part of the 19th century in jewelry and accessories, and into the early years of the 1900s. gold could be tinted, when molten, a rose hue by adding a tad of copper- a bit of zinc gave the jeweler green gold for leaf accents and such. Our cigar holder has a fancy, embossed, rose gold filled and/or plated cartouche, with ornate scrolls, w Sir or Madame can have their initials carved, if desired. And, the end w the cigar inserts have a nifty rose gold trim The back side of the holder has remnants of a delicate Japanese etching- it's a shame it wore off- sir must have had some tense moments in his business affairs- i can see him in New York , on October 29th, 1929, watching the stock market ticker, and clutching this cigar holder with sweaty and anxious palms! The holder measures 2 1/2" long, and about 5/8" across the wider end. The cigar end has an opening which will accommodate a smoke with a diameter of just under 1/2". T are some letters or numbers written inside this end, most likely by the artist, but i can't make them out. The new owner can spend his/her leisure hours translating it. The holder tapers to the mouth part end, w it is carved with a nice rim. We have not cleansed the holder, preferring to leave that to the next owner. The holder weighs10.5 grams, and has no obvious chips, cracks or damage. The ivory has acquired a mellow yellow patina over the last century; ivory is porous, like bone, turquoise, opals, etc, and absorbs oils from handling as well as airborne minerals. We appreciate your interest and welcome your queries! :) Please note- due to restrictions on ivory, even pre-ban such as this, we are unable to offer this treasure to our international friends.....
