FABULOUS LARGE VERY OLD WALNUT CARVED HANGING SHELF BUCK'S HEAD It is time for this addicted collector to downsize. Offered for sale is this very nice Victorian carved walnut clock or curio shelf in as found condition. It is circa 1870s - 1880s. It features a beautifully hand carved Black Forest style deer head. The buck originally had antlers but they have been gone for many years based on the patina of the wood. T are also incised carvings along the outer scrolled edges as seen in the photo. The shelf overall m easures approx. 16" wide by 12-1/4" high by 6-3/4" deep. It retains its original finish, which is in excellent condition with a warm patina. The finish on the back is as nice as on the front. T is an incised 13 (manufacturer's mark?) on the back. This originally hung with screw in eyes because t are holes at the very back edge of the flat shelf top. At one of these holes, t is a crack in the wood. This does not show when the shelf is hung and it is minor damage for a 120+ year old shelf, but mentioned for accuracy. This is a very nice quality walnut shelf that has always been lovingly taken care of. In addition to using it for a clock, you could put a vase or figurine on it.
