ANTIQUE Victorian Etui Embroidery Sewing Kit w Tools Going green?....Go Antiques! Over the next few weeks, needle work and sewing items from a New England collectors estate will be offered. The collection spanned the 19th and 20th centuries and contained items from Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. You are bidding for a cylindrical embroidery etui or sewing case containing 7 embroidery tools. The case was made from some type of very early plastic or gutta percha and is a rich cobalt or royal blue. Small chain like decorations are incised around the top and bottom. Ornate metal escutcheon and banding around the lid top and the bottom rim. The metal looks like steel. Inside are seven sewing tools and all seem to be original to the case. 's what you get: Silver thimble - The timble sits on a removable ring type holder. Incised with the initials A. E. W. and the number 7. Tarnished, out of round. Lacquered wooden double spool - Inside the ring holder. Just enough space for very fine thread. Measures 1 1/2". Steel Crochet Hook (tip) - Extremely small size, fits into a steel handle (see below). Measures 2 1/8". Steel Awl or Bodkin - Sharp pointed, decorative handle. About 2 1/4" long. Ivory Needle Holder - Pulls apart and holds, at best, only one regular needle. Measures 2 5/8" long. Small line started near center. Crochet Hook (handle) - Made from steel and fits the tip mentioned above. Measures 2 1/4" long. Steel Blunt Nose Needle - Flat shape with arrows incised on both sides. Measures 2 3/4" long. T is a space for small or folding scissors in the middle of the case but they are missing (easily remedied). The case itself measures 3 1/4" high and about 1 1/2" across. No marks indicating who the manufacturer was or when this was made. Color, form and inner lid lining (silk voile or moire) suggest 1870-80s, England or France. Case shows some wear with slight scratching on the surface and bottom. Bidding starts at $100 with no reserve.
