What a truly love Victorian Bride's Basket Bowl this is! It has all the wonderful attributes of a late 19th century Victorian bowl...from a hand painted enamel stylized floral motif that was applied over a rich, shiny gold gilt background to being encased with a beautiful cranberry ruffled rim! I am not sure of this bowl's origin, but think it is either from England's Sturbridge area or from New England by a quality glass like that of Pairpoint/Mt. Washington and Jefferson Glass! The opaque base color of the glass on the inside is a very soft jade green that blends into the cranberry ruffle very gracefully! The outside of the glass has a porcelain-like white opaque color that is quite pretty and see-through! The bowl is 10-1/2" wide across the top, 3-3/4" high at the tallest crimped ruffle and the bowl has 2-3/4" wide base, with a ground pontil. The glass is somewhat delicate and has a very pretty sheen overall! Under black lighting, the opaque glass has a soft neon green glow! The bowl has a different six points of the crimped edge that have been nicked. On one ruffle going inward and outward, the edge was grazed and caused a thin sliver chip over the edge. These imperfections are not easily seen, until close very inspection! When I had white light on the bowl to picture, I found a hairline fracture that encompasses 1-3/4" in length, I added a star each end of the flaw in the photo. I did not notice the crack when I acquired the bowl and had handled/looked at it quite a bit before I found it...it does not effect the bowl's stability and is not easily seen without light passing through the glass. It does not come through the bowl, but with light, you can also see from the back of the bowl. The encased glass has little popped air bubbles and cooling marks and t on the ruffles, along with some little bits of black ash or t in glass, from the hand blowing process! The bowl has a stray drip of golden orange enamel paint on one ruffle that you can see the one of the pictures. The hand painted accents and gold gilt only have a smidgeon of wear and is in really fantastic condition! Although this bowl is not perfect, it is quite gorgeous and elegant! The bowl will be a lovely highlight in your collection and... One of your prettiest!!! Thank you for looking and Happy Bidding Wishes Always!
