Antique Toby Jug - Character Mug - Jar Here we have for auction this unusual handpainted Toby Jug or Jar dating, from its style and condition, from the late Victorian period. It is unmarked, though may be of Staffordshire manufacture. Rather than a handled jug, this piece has no handle, and may have originally been a storage jar rather than drinking mug - it probably should have originally had a lid in the form of a tricorn hat, which is now missing. It is in good condition, considering its age and material. It is painted in a lovely, strong cobalt blue and stands 3 1/2 inches high - beautifully handpainted in a style and with features very reminiscent of traditional Victorian Staffordshire figures.
