antique Victorian photo album w/tintype and old photos An old Victorian photo album that holds tintype photos and other pictures from its time. This beautiful album is carved in leather and hand tooled on both sides. The spine reads "ALBUM" in gold lettering with elegant design. The clasp is brass and works fantastic. T are 15 pages. Each page is old cut-out chipboard with paper glued on each side creating a frame around the cutout. The photos slip between the cut out and the paper frame making a see through effect while the photos are held in place without glue or adhesive. 4 of the photos are tintypes and the other old photos are from the same time era, CDVs. Sepia and others. On the back of at least one of the photos I could slide out easily, is a George Washington 2 cent stamp (BLUE) which reads U.S. INTERREE EXPRESS. Upon the stamp it is cancelled SAYRE & CHASE. On the back of the photo to which the stamp is attached is printed: SAYRE & Chase Successers to Z.P. McMillen PHOTOGRAPHERS, Over Wilder's Book Store Newark , Ohio It goes on to state that the negative of the picture is never destroyed and Duplicates furnished at any time with a place w the Neg. No....was to have been written. Overall measurements of the album are approximately 4" x 5 ¼" x 1 ½" The outside front and back tooled leather covers are pretty nice. However the bottom ¾" of the leather spine is torn away. The outside edges of the pages are gilded and in very nice shiny gold condition all around. The pages are bound to cloth and intact but have separated from the leather spine and will need to be repaired. The inside cover looks like it may have gotten damp at some time. It is slightly warped and discolored around the edges. Some of the pages and on the back of some of the photos are rust spots. I see only 3 tiny tears around the picture borders which is common. The leather looks very good with only miner wear at the edges and as noted. In general it looks fantastic! This wonderful Victorian photo album will make a great book for display and for any collection.
