Unbelievable find!!! This antique cast iron street sign dates from the Victorian era. ~ It is quite rare, and from what I understand was rare 100 years ago. Not many of these signs survived. Cast iron is easily broken, rusts quickly and weighs a ton ~ This particular sign is definately a survivor. It survived the San Francisco earthquake in 1906 and much more recently survived another ordeal. It was pulled from a dumpster near the estate of its owner. The workers clearing out the estate threw it in the trash. It was originally a San Francisco street sign. I found a couple photos taken 6 blocks from Trinity Street after the 1906 quake ~ they are posted above. The sign measures 5' 2" long and 8" tall .. and weighs around 50lbs. It is painted with the old 'globby' type of porcelain paint (see photos) ~ There is not much damage at all considering its age - some chipping to the paint and a few knicks in the cast iron. See photos for the best description. There is not much reference to value available ~ I have only found a couple of signs similiar to this one for sale online - this one is definately nicer than the ones I found. Shipping is high due to the fact that much care is needed in packaging. It will have to be crated ~ or picked up locally in Northern Ca. Don't miss out on this rare opportunity ~ Please email if you have read more
