"The Lord Is My Shepherd" is the motto of this original 1800's piece, worked in SILK yarn on very tiny punched paper. It is more rare to find this type of work in silk yarn, as most were done in wool. This one is REALLY a beauty!! This is in excellent overall condition, especially for its age! The yarn colors are exceptionally vibrant, in a rainbow of shades, all with a soft lustre that is created by the use of silk thread. T is much detail surrounding the lettering, which adds to the beauty! Also unlike many others, this is actually cross-stitch, while most are more of a satin stitch. The stitching is excellent; obviously done by a skilled hand. T are no missing or frayed stitches. The frame is also fabulous on this piece! It is a very heavy walnut design, with several deep routed edges and a wide band of gold leaf next to the embroidered piece. It measures 26-5/8" x 14" x 2-3/4" deep. T are several square nails showing in the back, as I have shown in the photos. It has the original wood backing, but also 4 added corner pieces which appear to hold the corners together more securely. The glass front is very obviously old glass, but has no chips or cracks. I am selling this for my mother, who has collected mottos of this style for over 50 years, each with different sayings. After moving to an apartment, she is ready to find good homes for these increasingly rare examples of real American history.
