Up for auction is a beautiful antique Victorian shadow box picture frame. This shadow box is in the same wonderful condition as when I purchased it at an estate sale two years ago. I have not removed the tacking nails from the back of the frame so as to not disturb the uniqueness and value of the frame itself - and who knows what may lurk underneath the back panel? I have set a low starting price and I have also set a reserve price which is also low compared to the value of the frame, so "happy bidding"!! The original snapshot from which the portrait was made is underneath the glass on the bottom right hand side of the picture - you can see it on the close up of the portrait itself! The dimensions of this great frame are as follows: Frame measures: 19" x 17" Inside dimensions of glass itself, frame to frame: 9 ½" x 11 ½" Visible picture size within gold metal framing: 8 ¼" x 6 ½" Frame depth: 4" The only information that I have on this frame is what I learned from the family at the estate sale, & this is the only way that I can estimate the age of the piece. The 76 year old owner of the estate said that the frame & portrait was passed down to her from her mother, who originally acquired it from her mother - she estimated the piece to be from the late 1800's. I have attempted to capture the aspects of the frame that I believe would be of interest to serious collectors. T he original wooden nails or tacks are still intact on the frame as shown in the photos, and these have not been removed as stated earlier - I see no obvious disturbance whatsoever around these nails in the wood/no scrapes, etc. that would give the appearance that anyone has ever removed the backing from this frame. The gold framing around the portrait is some type of metal - it is in beautiful condition in my opinion - it is unknown to me if this is gold plate or what it might be. This is why I took the photograph in the sunshine so that the obvious beautiful condition & reflection would be captured in the image. Surrounding the "shinier" gold the rest of the gold colored matting seems to be of a hammered appearance. I'm also including a side shot of the frame to show you the beautiful condition of the wood. This is a heavy , solid frame, and comes from a pet-free/smoke-free home! Insurance is required and is included in the shipping/handling. PayPal payment is expected within 48 hours after auction, item will be shipped within 72 hours of receiving payment. ( 3 business days ) Because of its age it is sold in "as is" condition with a no refund/no return option. I describe all items as accurately as possible.
