This a stunning antique Victorian circa 1890 sterling silver Scottish agate flower head brooch. I have collected agates in Scotland for over 20 years and know where most of the lovely gemstones that Victorians used for their classic jewellery were found. The superb stone is a brown and white banded agate from near Scurdie Ness on the east coast of Scotland.PLEASE NOTE: On the edge of one of the flower petals there is a section of clear quartz which is weaker than the more solid agate and is perfectly normal and natural. This section has a small area of breakaway at the back. The brooch has no hallmarks which is fairly normal for pieces from this period and the clasps and back have been fully tested and are sterling silver.PLEASE NOTE: The ornate centre section is NOT silver but a white metal. The width is 4.8 cm ( Just under two inches ) and the pin and rollover clasp are in good working condition although not original .
