Welcome to Sabinemoon! Quilt lovers, collectors, and textile fanatics...we're glad you've come to visit! In our travels, we are constantly in search of exceptional examples of the quilter's art. Our favorites are not always the finest museum pieces, but rather fabulous prairie-style quilts that we refer to as TRUE TEXAS FOLK ART. What we would like to provide is a place to stop-over, sip a cup of "java", get a little history and Texas culture lesson to boot...and then hopefully purchase a piece that will let the sunshine into your heart when you open the box on arrival. Age: 1940s-era Item/Pattern: Touching Star -- old traditional star pattern, usually displaying DYNAMIC GRAPHICS, as this one does -- a GORGEOUS, BOLD rendition that will set any quilt collector's pulse racing -- if you collect antique STAR quilts, this one will take your breath away -- it presents SPECTACULAR visuals and GORGEOUS, BOLD colors against a creamy background -- will fit any decor from cottage/cabin-style to Farmhouse Victorian to Moderne Art -- FABULOUS, FOLKY and FUN! Fabrics: All old 100% cottons -- some 40s-era shirting and dress fabrics, some probably salvaged from old clothing remnants -- some earlier depression-era FEEDSACKS -- so this one is a true SCRAP quilt, that took on a new life as a wonderful bed linen and example of true textile-art -- bordered, narrowly banded and backed in solid peachy/pink cotton -- straight edges. Batting: Light to medium-weight old hand-carded cotton batting that came straight from the cotton patch. Handwork: Totally hand-pieced and hand-quilted in a plentiful pattern of double-rows, grids, stars...following the design of the quilt...most of the stitching "in the ditch" at 5-6 small stitches per inch -- everything nicely-executed by a seamstress who took pride in her handwork. Size: 66" x 84" Condition: Very good condition for its age -- clean, strong and sturdy -- light wear/gentle usage -- colors crisp and vibrant -- batting in fine shape due to all the quilting stitches -- edges show just a few minimal frays -- everything intact, except for a few tiny loose seams, a few small "pops" or worn spots, and one piece of one star that has shattered and could use replacement with similar fabric -- also just a few small age spots -- absolutely nothing significant to the overall value, appearance, or desirability of the piece -- has exceptional display value, as you can see in the pics -- an old country CHARMER, with great visuals, which could be one of the SUPER-STARS in your collection!
