We hope many of you take this opportunity to add to your "gathering". We sell without reserve -- bid with confidence -- all listings quality for our standard SATISFACTION-GUARANTEE -- if you don't like it, you don't have to keep it. So take a look...visit often...and CELEBRATE true auctions and eBay at its best with Sabinemoon! Item: 1930s/40s-era antique African-American patchwork quilt -- an old Southern BEAUTY that is a fine example of AAFA textiles -- a true Texas FOLK-ART quilt -- constructed in an old Cobweb/Spiderweb pattern -- I love the Cobweb quilts that are a little more square-shaped like this one and a maze of intricate pieces, and shards of color which really "pop" against a nice creamy background -- reminds me of the old TV test patterns....which brings back some great memories that the younger generation probably won't understand or relate to -- when one family on the block got a TV, and everyone else gatd in the evenings to watch it -- even watching the test patterns were a treat -- this quilt was created way before television or any other luxury came along -- how someone could create something this "free" and "positive" during the depression years...shows the amazing courage, strength and guts that these individuals suffered through -- empty stomachs, no jobs, fear, sickness, and cold...could not prevent them for creating ART -- FABULOUS, FOLKY, and EXTREMELY GRAPHIC -- a PROUD, FREE-SPIRIT piece of textile FOLK-ART, and a MUST-HAVE for your collection! Materials: All old 100% cottons, including a treasure-trove of depression-era FEEDSACKS -- other 30s and 40s-era shirting and dress fabrics -- a true SCRAP quilt, w the feedsacks were probably carefully saved over time, and other fabrics were salvaged from old clothing remnants -- whatever was on hand at the time -- narrowly banded and backed in old nile-green cotton which looks homespun and home-dyed -- straight edges. Batting: Light-weight old hand-carded cotton batting that came straight from the cotton patch -- fairly thin, lays flat and even. Handwork: Totally hand-pieced and hand-quilted in plentiful curving rows of the old Baptist Fan pattern at 5-6 small stitches per inch -- the handwork is nicely-executed, while still maintaining a sweet/naive "presence". Size: 68" x 80" Condition: Excellent condition for a 60/70 year-old quilt -- clean, strong and sturdy, with years of LIFE left to enjoy -- light wear/gentle usage -- colors crisp and vibrant -- everything intact, except a few small loose seams and a few thinned/shattered areas which aren't too noticeable -- edges in good condition -- batting in nice shape -- a few small age spots and light surface soil -- ABSOLUTELY nothing significant to the overall value, appearance or desirability of the piece -- nothing else to report, and no apologies -- has EXCEPTIONAL display value, as you can see in the pics -- ready for your bed, stacked in your quilt cabinet, hung over the door of your jelly cupboard -- or hang immediately as SPECTACULAR wall-art -- this quilt is ONE-OF-A-KIND -- an ORIGINAL in every sense of the word...not to be duplicated -- a SHOW-STOPPER, JAW-DROPPER, EYE-CATCHER and every other adjective you can think of -- don't miss it! Please email any questions. Priority shipping with delivery confirmation will be $11.95 -- insurance is extra, and optional. OUTSIDE THE U.S.A., SHIPPING WILL BE QUOTED AT END OF AUCTION -- BE PREPARED TO PAY GLOBAL AIR PRIORITY RATES ONLY.
