Welcome to Sabinemoon...and points WEST! We are very pleased to announce expansion from the Pineywoods of rural East Texas...to the "Rustic Elegance" of Ft. Worth...or as most call it, COWTOWN. W the west began...and still exists. In addition to the best-of-the-best antique folk-art quilts, we will be adding some diverse inventory...listing just a few items each week. We hope many of you take this opportunity to add to your "gathering". We sell without reserve -- bid with confidence -- all listings quality for our standard SATISFACTION-GUARANTEE -- if you don't like it, you don't have to keep it. So take a look...visit often...and CELEBRATE true auctions and eBay at its best with Sabinemoon! Item: 1940s-era antique African-American patchwork quilt -- last week, with the exception of one, we listed some nice elegant, well-behaved quilts -- this week we're running WILD THANGS -- the best examples of AAFA textiles -- true Texas folk-art quilts, from an East Texas collection -- the kind that stomp right in, grab you by the throat, demand your attention, and OWN any environment they are placed in -- again, this one is a magnificent maze of the sweetest old FEEDSACKS that I've seen in a long time -- placed against a creamy background, becoming an OPTIC ART delight -- many patterns come to mind: King's X, Texas Crossroads, Garden Path, Lattice Fence, Cross in the Window -- each X or cross is made up of 4 separate hexagon patterns, which also qualifies this quilt as a "hex" quilt...an old folklore legend that those who sleep under a "hex" quilt at night are protected from evil (nice thought, if it works...and I just happen to believe it might!) -- fabulous, folky and extremely graphic! Materials: All old 100% cottons -- an enormous treasure-trove of depression-era FEEDSACK fabrics, probably saved or accumulated over many years to create this work of art -- fantastic (SWEET!) color combination -- narrowly banded and backed in solid creamy cotton. Batting: Light-weight old hand-carded cotton that came straight from the cotton patch -- nice and thin. Handwork: Totally hand-pieced and hand-quilted in plentiful, straight fence-rows at 6-7 small stitches per inch -- nicely-executed while still maintaining a naive/primitive presence. Size: 66" x 80" Condition: Absolutely excellent condition for a 60-70 year-old quilt -- still strong and sturdy -- does show light to medium wear, but many years of LIFE left in this sweetheart -- colors crisp enough to call this quilt TOTAL EYE-CANDY, and mellow enough to comfort and warm your heart as you peruse the fabrics -- everything intact except one small dime-size hole on the backing that is completely insignificant -- a couple small nicks on the edges -- the batting shows minor thinning, but only from the back of the quilt -- the front is about as good as it gets, a real LOOKER -- t are a few small age spots and light water-marks/surface soiling that show mainly on the backside and which probably occurred during storage -- everything looks highly liftable with a good soak or professional cleaning -- starting $100 lower than I normally would, due to the cleaning issues -- winner will make those decisions -- nothing else to report, and FOR SURE no apologies -- has EXCEPTIONAL display value -- ready for your bed, stacked in your quilt cabinet, hung over the door of your jelly cupboard -- or hang immediately as SPECTACULAR wall-art -- this one is AWE-INSPIRING -- a SWEETHEART of a quilt...and a MUST-HAVE for your collection! Please email any questions. Priority shipping with delivery confirmation will be $12.95 -- insurance is extra, and optional. OUTSIDE THE U.S.A., SHIPPING WILL BE QUOTED AT END OF AUCTION -- BE PREPARED TO PAY GLOBAL AIR PRIORITY RATES ONLY.
