So take a look...visit often...and CELEBRATE true auctions and eBay at its best with Sabinemoon! Item: 1940s-era antique African-American patchwork quilt -- an old Southern BEAUTY that is a fine example of AAFA textiles -- true Texas folk-art quilts, from an East Texas collection -- this one has much going on besides the Diamond Field pattern -- t are Good Fortune symbols, Cross in the Window patterns, and some type of Mourning Maze scattered across the quilt in black mourning prints -- all this meant something to the maker, perhaps a memory quilt for a loved one that had recently passed, and she hid lots of these symbols in plain view -- every time you look at it, you see something different, so quite an optical illusion -- while the mourning prints would normally give it a somber mood, this one is quite carnival-like or harlequin-esque in its visuals -- great COLORS and form -- FABULOUS, FOLKY, and EXTREMELY GRAPHIC -- reminds me of a Jack-in-the-Box that pops out and startles you when you aren't expecting it -- this one should be hung as textile wall-art -- the VISUALS are absolutely stunning -- this seamstress was a true artist, working with fabric instead of a paintbrush -- this is FREE-SPIRIT FOLK-ART...and not just a quilt...but a vision of someone's soul. Materials: All old 100% cottons, including early calicos, depression-era feedsacks, and 40s-era shirting, dress and ticking fabrics -- a true SCRAP quilt, constructed from clothing remnants and scrapped materials -- narrowly banded and backed in vibrant sunshine-yellow cotton -- straight edges. Batting: Very light-weight old cotton batting that came straight from the cotton patch -- nice and thin, and lays flat and even. Handwork: A mixture of hand and machine-piecing on an old treadle, and then totally hand-quilted in plentiful curving rows of the old Baptist Fan pattern at 5-6 small stitches per inch -- close rows, and lots of quilting stitches -- nicely-executed, while remaining on the sweet/naive/quirky side when it comes to the handwork -- it all WORKS beautifully together. Size: 66" x 80" Condition: Very excellent condition for a 60 year-old quilt -- clean, strong and sturdy, with years of LIFE left to enjoy -- light wear/gentle usage, if any -- does not appear to have been used much at all -- colors crisp and vibrant -- everything intact -- edges in great shape -- batting in nice shape -- just a few tiny faint-colored age spots, and some minimal surface soil -- absolutely nothing significant to the overall value, appearance or desirability of the piece -- nothing else to report, and no apologies -- has EXCEPTIONAL display value -- ready for your bed, stacked in your quilt cabinet, hung over the door of your jelly cupboard -- or hang immediately as SPECTACULAR wall-art -- a SHOW-STOPPER...but one that really makes you think about the visuals -- it's a "connection thing", and this one is an original...not to be duplicated -- it goes straight to the heart...because that's w it came from -- 'nuff said! Please email any questions. Priority shipping with delivery confirmation will be $13.95 -- insurance is extra, and optional. OUTSIDE THE U.S.A., SHIPPING WILL BE QUOTED AT END OF AUCTION -- BE PREPARED TO PAY GLOBAL AIR PRIORITY RATES ONLY.
