W the west began...and still exists. In addition to the BEST-OF-THE-BEST AUTHENTIC, ANTIQUE FOLK-ART QUILTS, we plan to add some antique WESTERN inventory in the next few weeks. Item: 1950s-era antique African-American patchwork quilt -- an old Southern BEAUTY that is a fine example of AAFA textiles -- a true Texas FOLK-ART quilt -- yeah, folks, we have to admit...we've been holding out on you -- while most think we've been sitting back taking a "siesta" for the last few months, we haven't been idle by a long shot -- we've got some of the BEST of the BEST coming at you, so please stay tuned and check back every evening for fresh listings and some AMAZING quilts -- this one is again about as VISUAL and GRAPHIC as its gets -- a STUNNING old quilt that we are calling Crazy Memories -- large strippy-pieced blocks, that could comprise a memory/mourning quilt to remember someone that was recently deceased or a memorable family event -- this life or event was CELEBRATED, rather than mourned, with some truly amazing old vintage and retro fabrics (all cotton) -- perhaps Mom's church dresses, sister's party dresses, the EYE-CATCHING dress made for the family reunion, a family wedding, or a vacation trip -- something special was going on , and it's truly a FEAST FOR THE EYES -- FABULOUS, FOLKY, and EXTREMELY GRAPHIC -- this one will OWN any environment you place it in -- if this one could only talk, the stories and good times it could tell us about -- SUPERB textile FOLK-ART that should be displayed, and a MUST-HAVE for your collection! Materials: All old vintage cottons -- mostly old 50s and 60s-era dress and shirting fabrics, but some are rich, luxurious polished cottons -- some great florals and novelty fabrics, and of course some solids too -- the shards of solid black scattered and t make me think it's a memory/mourning quilt -- this one is a POWERFUL SCRAP quilt with lots of PUNCH, and a story to tell -- BOLD and BEAUTIFUL -- some family member out t knows, but alas...we probably won't ever find out the story behind this one -- so we're trying to find it a new and appreciative home -- it's up for adoption -- narrowly banded and backed in solid creamy cotton -- straight edges. Batting: Light-weight layer of old hand-carded cotton that probably came straight from the cotton patch -- fairly thin, lays flat and even. Handwork: A mixture of hand and machine-piecing, and then hand-quilted in plentiful rows of the old L-shaped or elbow pattern at 4-5 stitches per inch -- the handwork is on the quirky/primitive side...which absolutely works! Size: 66" x 86" Condition: Excellent near MINT condition -- clean, strong and sturdy -- light wear/gentle usage, if any -- this old memory quilt may have been immediately stored and never again saw the light of day -- colors crisp and vibrant -- everything intact -- edges in good shape -- batting in nice shape -- t is some light surface soil in the fold-lines on the backside, which probably occurred during storage -- nothing else to report, and no apologies -- about as good as it gets -- has EXCEPTIONAL display value, as you can see in the pics -- ready for your bed, stacked in your quilt cabinet, hung over the door of your jelly cupboard -- or hang immediately as SPECTACULAR wall-art -- this quilt is ONE-OF-A-KIND -- an ORIGINAL in every sense of the word...not to be duplicated -- a SHOW-STOPPER in the FOLK-ART department, and all the PERSONALITY and PRESENCE you could...
