This auction is for an absolutely adorable original antique "Toffee" bear, who was made based on a story called "Listen with Mother"that aired on BBC radio in the 1950s. Chad Valley and Alpha Farnell, two major toymakers in the 1950s, both made a Toffee, and because he has no tags I can't be certain which company made this little guy, but his is authentic. His hat and scarf are just like the ones pictured in Pauline Cockrill's Encyclopedia on p. 104, which she has listed as a Chad Valley bear from the early 1950s, so I'm guessing he's the earlier Chad Valley version that came with the red hat and scarf. Adorable face, fully jointed, rexine paw pads and just a wonderful little spirit. He has some mohair loss on his face and in other patches elsew from being handled over the years, and his rexine is showing it's age and t (see photos). In general though he is a very sturdy little 1950s vintage bear. See photos for details, or email me for more information.
