WELCOME! You are bidding on a beautiful original antique copper and brass bed warmer **ALSO** an antique copper shovel and coal/ember tongs with magnificent matching aged copper patina! When bed warmers were in use the tongs were used to place the hot embers into the pan. This is a great matched copper set. The bed warmer pan is 10-1/2 inches in diameter (across) and the overall length of the handle and Pan together is 40 inches long. The pan lid and bottom are both beautifully aged copper. The Hinge, lid tab, and handle mount are wonderfully ornate brass. All of the hardware is attached with its classic ORIGINAL copper rivets. All metal hardware is firmly attached and the hinge works great! Note- this has not been polished or cleaned. It has a wonderful, consistent aged copper patina. T are some small areas with "green" on the copper and a few small lighter "spots". I wanted the winning bidder to decide on an aged or polished look so this is untouched. T is one dent on the front of the bottom pan that is difficult to see but does slightly affect the closing of the lid. The handle is some type of beautiful multi-tone hardwood with an aged metal ring for hanging. T are a few small dents and scratches in the wood but are barely noticeable when displayed. The handle is quite loose w it is attached to the brass handle mount, however, it does not fall or pull out. T is what appears to be a brass or copper "pin" in a small hole in the back of the handle mount that penetrates the wood and prevents the handle from coming out. The looseness appears to be just from use and the wearing away of the wood within the mount. It is worn along the edges of the mount but not rotten or dry rotted. Overall this piece has wonderful patina, displays beautifully and is of very high quality metal and wood craftsmanship. The coal/ember tongs are copper and have a wonderful aged patina that matches the bed warmer very well. They have the classic "claw" type ends and they still have their original clasp! When the clasp is unlatched on one side the tongs spring open nicely. The tongs are 12-1/2 inches long and 3 inches wide at the "spring". I can find no damage on the tongs and all of the rivets are secure. T is very slight copper "green" on some of the seams. It is a very nice set! The matching shovel is also 12-1/2 inches long and is 3-3/4 inches wide at the base. It shares the same patina making this a beautifully matched set. The shovel has some copper "green" and several small dents and dings. Someone has folded over the tips of the shovel ends, possibly to avoid sharp points. This may be able to be carefully restored to its original shape but I am unwilling to take the risk myself. I think they display just fine as is. As with the bed warmer I have not polished or cleaned the tools to preserve the great aged copper patina. (Note- I used different light settings to capture detail in the pictures, the truest color is that of the gallery or listing picture with the burgundy background.) I hope the pictures speak for themselves but just let me know if you have need of further pictures or questions. This is a No-reserve auction with a very low starting bid. Greetings from cold Maine, and HAPPY BIDDING!
