Please scroll down under this description for additional views. Decorative antique hand painted porcelain apothecary jar and lid, 9 3/4" tall to the top of the finial on the lid, 4 1/2" diameter. Both the lid and the jar are marked MADE IN FRANCE in hand painted brown letters, traces of a blue mark on the bottom of the jar that looks like it might be crossed arrows but I can't make it out for sure. Black lettering on the side: POM: EPISPAST:V: which I think is a shorthand version of "pommade epistastique verte", some sort of ointment for blisters from what I could gather doing a google search. The painting is quite lovely with a frame of gold and strong pink, surrounded by clusters of flowers. No chips or cracks, minimal surface wear. From a local doctor's estate.
