14 years ago, my mother-in-law came to live with us. Recently widowed, she left her house as it was, came to Oregon and said she was never going back home. We told her we would pack her house up, pack EVERYTHING, and bring here for her to sort through at her pleasure.Her house was much like a museum, she was an avid and well known antique dealer and collector in Los Angeles in the mid to later 1900's.We moved over 700 boxes of items from her house, along with many pieces of furniture. 1 of her pieces has been on the Antique Road Show.I built a 7000 sq. foot building to accommodate all her collections. She never opened a box.She died about 7 years ago, and we have just begun the process of going through the boxes ourselves.It is an arduous process. Some items will go to concession dealers, some are given away, some things donated, some are kept and some things are offered here.I used to write a bit of the history at the beginning of each ad, I have decided to write this, and when a bit of provenance fits, I will include this introduction. These items were collected many years ago by a very sweet and knowledgeable lady. Wish she was here to tell me about each item we offer, but, I am on my own, and will do my best to describe.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ What a great looking pump! Very rare and very hard to find Hayes pump. I never found another one in my endless hours, days, months and years of searching. Ok, a few hours, many....This pump was made by Hayes Manufacturing Co in Galva, Illinois. It has a numbers on the various parts of the pump, the most prominent number is on the brass housing that attaches the hose to the main body of the pump. That number is P-762. Other numbers areHandle - P 764Foot bracket - P 781 & 721Brass intake foot - P 760This pump has the original paint. The brass has a nice patina.The pump plunger stem is also brass, it is tight. I suspect this is a working pump, it feels like it has very snug leathers or whatever they used for the sealing gaskets on the plunger. It comes up and stays in position.The foot bracket is adjustable. You can have the foot rest even with the barrel intake or lower (or higher), should it be used as a bilge pump.There is a brass screen at the intake.The hose is rubber and about 8 feet long. There is a brass spray nozzle on the end, it looks to be adjustable.I have shown the pump in the pictures with the pump handle down and in the up positions. It will stay wherever you stop it, as I said, it is tight.This pump looks like it is a 2 man operation. From what I have read, a mixture used for spraying fruit trees would be batched, and poured into buckets that a man could carry. One man pumped and the other manned the hose sprayer end. It could be done by one man, maybe it was. Just seems 1 man pumping and 1 man spraying makes sense. Oh well, I was not around 100 years ago to see this pump in action.So there it is. I will take many pictures and post as many here as Ebay allows. I am selling the pump "as is" because to test I would have to fill it with some liquid, and I do not want to do that. Nope. I would never get the insides dry with disassembling, and I do not think anyone would actually use this sprayer, but I will say, I think it will work should you want it to.Look at the pictures and ask any question you may have. I know you will not find another Hayes pump on Ebay, past or present. So this is your best chance to own one, add to your collection or go back to simpler times and use the pump. Harder times sure, but simpler. There are pressureized plastic tanks now, but should you need to spray out of an open bucket, here is your pump, an oldie, but that is what makes it great.If you do not to spray, remove the nozzle. I was a gold seller, I had 1000's of great feedbacks, a couple of negs ( I have learned some people are impossible to please).Now, I still have a 7000 sq. ft. building, filled with 100's of mystery boxes inherited from an avid antique dealer who had a great eye. SOOO, here I am again, and just relearning the "new" Ebay. The fees have risen (Ebay even takes a precentage of shipping charges!), and the marketplace has changed, but, it still offers a larger audience than I can find elsewhere.Never know what is in the next box! read more
