~**~ LIN - O - WHITE ~**~~*~ ~*~~*~ ~*~ THE PERFECT WASHING TABLET ~*~ ~*~ This Wonderful Antique Lin-O-White Washing Tablet is a wonderful example of Laundry History ..... I have collected Antique and Vintage Laundry Room articles for over 20 yrs now ...as many of you already know...And as I find More Laundry Articles I am Listing them for those of you that love to decorate your laundry room with Unique and different items from Yesteryear !!! This wonderful old bar soap style washing tablet is a wonderful and "Unique" Piece of Laundry History.....as this was the answer to doing away with Washboards ...can you imagine all the very happy Homemakes to see a product that would work without hours of scrubbing !!!The tablet is wrapped in a wonderful paper label that is in a deep blue with creamy white graphics ....On the front of the label it reads: LIN-O-WHITE ...The Perfect Washing Tablet ....Thoroughly Cleans Clothes Without Rubbing ...Throw Away Your washboard !.....off to the right of this advertising t is a lady dressed in the late 1800s long skirt with a white blouse.... in front of her is an oval copper tub and she is lifting out a garment and appears to be very pleased with LIN-O-WHITE .....To one side of the tablet wrapper it reads: Lin - o -White does no injury to any fabric. It cleans woolens ........and so on ........Then it goes on to say Lin- o-White for washing Lace Curtains, Bed spreads, Shirts and all linens . T is nothing as good or like it .......LIN-O-WHITE is manufactured only by the CELLULOID STARCH COMPANY ..NEW YORK, N.Y.....Sold in 5 and 10 cent tablets ..... This washing Tablet measures: 3-1/2 inches long and 1-1/2 inch wide x 3/4 of an inch thick ...It is in Excellent condition and it is from the late 1800s to very early 1900s These look great displayed in your laundry room with Other Laundry soaps , Starches , Washboards, Wash tubs, clothespins and the like ... Train past Port Deposit Station The incredible tale of How a Clothespin Stopped a Train research by Al Bruno You have probably heard this tale as a child and just never knew w it came from, well it happen in the early spring of 1905 along the Susquehanna River in Port Deposit, Maryland. The local train station master had a daughter, who happened to have a fancy for the train conductor who handled the 4:00 PM train into the Port Deposit Station. This particular day was exceptionally warm and had melted vast amounts of snow that had been collecting from around mid-March. Now high water had filled the street by 2:00 PM. By 3:00 PM an alert went out for all able hands to help evacuate those people trapped out to higher ground. About this time the daughter thought of her beau coming in to Port and wanted to warn him of potential disaster. So took the keys to her fathers Jalopy and drove north to try and meet the train outside of town. As the train was coming close, she thought of a way to signal danger. In the back of the rumble seat was a clothespin bag. She grabbed a clothespin and turned on the vehicles gas head lamp. As the train passed by the conductor noticed clothespin being dangled back and forth in front of the Lamp. He immediately put on his breaks and stopped the train avoiding any disaster. Later that evening back in town the river began to settle and the story was told. And most all asked how he knew?"
