ANTIQUE Vintage Sonora Chime # 57 Mantel Tambour Clock Westminster Chimes, ca 1921Large Mahogany Case Runs and Chimes This is an original Seth Thomas Sonora Chime # 57 Tambour Mantel Clock that chimes each quarter hour and strikes the hours on perfectly tuned chimes. The clock is described in the Tran Duy Ly book “SETH THOMAS CLOCKS & MOVEMENTS, Third Edition - Volume 1” page 168 as follows; “CHIME CLOCK No. 57 - 1921, Mahogany cabinet case. Westminster chime each quarter and striking the hours on perfectly tuned rods. Height 11 1/2 inches. Width 18 1/4 inches. Cast brass sash with silvered mat and convex beveled glass. 6-inch silvered dial. List, $ 75.00.” A copy of page 168 is included in the photos.This clock weighs 13 lb 8 oz, is 18 1/4 inches wide, 11 1/2 inches high, and has a depth of 7 1/4 inches. The Sonora chime clocks have two separate movements, the front movement running the time and hour strike and the rear movement running the quarter hour chime. The clock is all original, almost 100 years old, there are areas of natural age crazing of the finish and some small marks and scrapes which all add to the patina of this fine timepiece. I see no cracks, splits, or repairs to the wood. The finish on this clock case is original. There is a lever on the side of the clock which will silence the chiming if so desired. A winding
