Nice Antique Wooden Darning Egg Three Mennonite sisters lived in a yellow brick house together, for 40 years, quilting and sewing together. I recently attended their estate auction, and found some nice sewing antiques. They had many items dating back to the 1800s. This little wooden darning egg is wood, both sides are the same colour - the photo shows they're slightly different. It measures 4" long and about 1 1/2" wide. It opens fine, and also fits together tightly. I'm not sure, but I suppose needles were stored inside the egg. T are no cracks or chips, and the finish is nice.
