Vintage Wooden Surveyorâe(tm)s Tripod This auction is for a vintage Land Surveyorâe(tm)s Tripod. This tripod would have been used by a surveyor to mount a transit or level used to determine elevations at a construction site or to gather topographical information. We believe this tripod to be about 30 to 40 years old. It is in very nice condition for its age. The wood is still strong with no evidence of cracking, splitting or rotting. The red and white paint used for visibility is somewhat faded from the sunshine. The top mount is a standard 3 ½" from edge of thread to edge of thread. The center hole for hanging a plumb bob is also a standard hole of 1 ½". The bottom spikes for leveling into the ground are still straight and have a nice point to them. They are firmly secured to the wooden leg post. The original leather strap used to strap the wooden legs together when it is in the closed position is still present and useable. If you are a collector of land surveying equipment this would make a great addition to any collection. And yesâe¦if you actually use land surveying, this tripod is still in useable condition.
