Antique Walnut BOX w/ 2 DRAWERS & DECORATIVE BRASS PULLS
This is an antique, but I do not know its age. The box is made of walnut, I'm pretty sure. I am not an expert on woods, though, so I do not promise this is walnut. It just looks like that to me. It's a dense hard wood, none the less. It needs refinishing. It has some white spray paint on the left side, front left, and top. I had planned to strip it and refinish it, but it never got done. I did at one time work on restoring the brass pulls. The pulls are each two pieces with the rectangle being a decorative plate behind the pulls. They attach with what looks to be a brass nut and washer on each drawer. The top of the box has a split and start of another 2 cracks in the wood. This does not affect its functioning. The drawers open and close easily. They are not broken, and they are solid strong drawers. I put purple felt in the drawer because I used it as a jewelry box. I do not know if this was its original purpose. Before I had it, it was used in a book business and held gold and silver leaf sheets. The back is wooden but not the same wood. It has some holes in it as if from nail heads. T is a "501" stamped into the wood on the back. The 5 is bigger than the 0 and 1. Maybe this is significant, and a collector might know about this. It leads me to believe t may have been a limited number of these boxes made (?). This is a heavy box weighing about 4 3/4 pounds. It is 8 3/4" wide by 8 1/4" deep by 5 1/4" high. Each drawer is 6 1/2" wide by 6 5/8" deep by 2" high (outer measurements minus thickness of wood). The drawer sides and back are not the same wood as the fronts. Someone wrote on the bottom of the drawers with pencil. One drawer is numbered 34 and the other 25. T is a crack and start of a couple more on the bottom and some dings and scratches, but the box is not broken through or wobbly. This is a very sturdy piece. The bottom does not have the same finish on it as the rest of the box (minus the white spray paint). The bottom also appears to have a stain--maybe from water or ink. The box is held together with nails. This is all I know about it. Thanks for looking! T is a reserve on this auction, but I will consider any fair top bid if it is close to the reserve. This box is heavy, and cost of shipping includes insurance to cover winning bid.
