Another GREAT item from REALLY GOOD OLD STUFF! Vintage Walnut INLAID Mother of Pearl WRITING DESK BOX Works as a vintage traveling lap desk or mobile pen/pencil case and stationary holder. Makes a great gift for the fountain ink pen collector or writer. Measures: 11 x 7 1/4 x 4 1/4 in inches A great turn of the century antique! This dark wood grain (walnut?) desk box is beautifully detailed with inlayed Mother of Pearl roses and vine with diamond shaped leaves on the top and an inlaid decorative piece above the keyhole, which is also inlaid aboue 1" square. The center oval on top is inlaid and suitable for initials (not engraved). Vines blooming with leaves and flowers of iridescent Mother of Pearl reach out from the the top and bottom centers towards the outside four corners. The hinged top opens to reveal a fold down felt padded writing section that measures 10" x 11-1/4". The top has a rich patterned forest green felt material. One half opens again to another section on the bottom that holds paper. The top of the smaller hinged door opens to nold what could be envelopes, 10" x 4" x 1 1/2" deep. In front of the smaller section is another section for two ink bottles, as well as a removable pencils and pens holder. This section is open and visible when the desk part is fully open. This box is in very good condition for its age...but it does show wear and natural petina. T is a crack on the top of the box that separates the wood, but the top is still attached together. Some of the finish is worn on the edges, rough inside edges and a minor chip on one of the desk pieces of wood, and rust on the metal locking device. This is an extraordinary piece for any Writing Implement, Antique, Decorative Arts, or Desk Box Collector.
