This is a three-day auction! Ends Tuesday night. This is the Waterbury "Hornet," one of a series listed under the novelty category in Tran's "Waterbury Clocks & Watches." This is a 30-hour clock with a glass case surrounding the movement through which you can view the mechanics of the clock. It is in good running condition. Patent dates are 1878-1891. It features a 2-inch dial which has one tight hairline from ten to six o'clock. The thick bevelled crystal is perfect, as is the glass cylinder. The glass shows tiny imperfections (waves, bubbles, dimples) typical of old antique glass. The case is gilded in gold and retains 99% of its gilding, a rare find. Most of these clocks have been buffed out and polished down to the underlying brass. It stands 3 1/2 inches to the top of the bale.
