Fellow collectors take note: I picked up a mixed lot of very interesting items at the November Skinner Auction, several of which were relevant to my collection and are now displayed on my shelves. The balance are being put up for sale on EBay. Perhaps one or more may fit your collecting interests. Up for sale without reserve is this very rare vase done in the "Capri" style of hand painted floral decoration on a black basalt body. This piece is four inches in height. It is marked on the base with "Wedgwood" (in very tiny letters) and moustache marks only, dating it to the period prior to 1890 and, more likely 1840, the heydey of this capri style. T are no chips, cracks or fleabites. Wear is minimal for a piece of this vintage. The floral decoration is intact and quite vibrant. Alltogether, an amazing survivor of outstanding Wedgwood artistry. NOTE: While t is, by intent of the artist, an attenuation of the pink coloration in the large flower in the second photo, it has been exaggerated and overly washed out by the photo flash. T is no wear of disturbance to the design. Shipping is by USPS Priority Mail. Packing is done with great care using bubble wrap and packing peanuts but insurance is required for an item of this value. Multiple purchases within the same 48 hour period can be shipped together (to the extent safety allows) to read more
