This beautiful antique jardiniere (or planter) was made by Wedgwood between 1907 and 1924. It is topped with beautiful white jasperware decoration done in high relief on a sage green background. The jasper drape is in the form of elegant clusters of grapes and vines supported on traditional lion's heads with scenes of six different classical figures below. (All six figures are pictured in photos 5 through 10. No two figures are the same.) The rim is adorned with an intricate band of flowers. IT IS IN PERFECT CONDITION! I can't find any chips, cracks or repairs. The next to last picture shows the bottom with the Wedgwood name in a straight line impressed into the clay. The last picture - though difficult to see - shows a number. I am not sure if that is 3/7/10. However Wedgwood did not date their products this way. I wonder if the number is 317/10 (with a number 1 rather than a backslash). The first number - the 3 - was used from 1907 to 1924 and that is the basis for the dating. I know at various times Wedgewood used either letters or numbers to indicate the month a piece was made, so I am not sure of the exact year. However, it was between 1907 and 1924 as based on the use of the number 3. (They made products in sage green from 1843 to 1941, so the green color must have been popular.) This piece stands about NINE inches tall and the top is about TEN inches across. I believe these were made in more than one size, so I want to point out the larger size with care. This is a big one! It is in wonderful condition, and the outside is absolute perfection. There is a slight dark mark on the inside where a flower pot must have set. There is no damage, but the interior floor is a little darkened where the pot sat. (I'll let the new owner decide if they want to clean it or not.) Due to its size and weight, shipping will be costly. You will have your choice of Parcel Post (slower but less expensive) or Priority Mail (faster but more expensive).
