This is truely a stunning example of an early antique Majolica "Basket-Weave Border" Plate ... made by Josiah Wedgwood .. and dated from the back-stamp to 1872. The plate is beautifully decorated with a relief moulded basket-weave border, ... framing a mottled central design, ... then finished in a rich glaze typical of majolica wares. The plate carries the early Wedgwood factory back-stamp .. and an impressed three-letter date mark .. as shown in the photos. An excellent reference to a similar plate can be found in, .. "The Collector`s Encyclopedia of Majolica" .. Mariann Katz-Marks .. page : 113. The plate is in very good condition. There are no cracks or chips. No damage or repairs.
