9 Piece WHITE BLOCK JBLS Lusterware Canister Set
This Beautiful and rare Victorian-Era canister set was made in Germany in the late 1800's by a company that seemingly disappeared around the time of World War I. It has gold lettering and trim on a cream-color base; see that opalescent sheen, like a childâe(tm)s soap bubbles? This is lusterware. That rainbow gleam is caused by metallic oxides which are added to pottery glaze after the porcelain is baked and enameled. Much of the lusterware you see today was made in Japan after World War II, so it is very unusual to find an intact 19th century European set complete with all lids. I purchased these recently at an estate sale, and was surprised to find a similar 5 piece set in a St Louis antique store; they were priced at $200.00, much more than my starting bid. T were alot of German families who immigrated to the MidWest in the late 1800's; maybe some housewife brought these along as a comforting reminder of home. They are in near-mint condition for being over 100 years old; two of them have small chips on the inside mouth which are invisible when the lids are on. The large ones are marked Oatmeal, Flour, Rice, and Tea; the smaller ones are labeled Nutmeg, Pepper, Allspice, Ginger, and Cloves. I ship all items USPS to US addresses only, and payment through PayPal is due within 48 hours of auction's end. I am listing alot more antique glassware, so be sure to check my other auctions. Thanks for looking...
