Up for auction is this very unique White Jade Ink Rest in excellent condition. The ink rest is also called an ink-rack or inkstand. One might want to take a short rest while he is grinding ink. Since the ink stick is wet where it touchces the ink-slab, it easily stains other things if left about. Accordingly, an ink rest serves as a utensil where the stick is temporarily placed. The workmanship on this piece is rather complex with raised dots in a pattern on top with a beautiful carving on one end. Most ink rests resemble tables, as in this case. Perfect for your Chinese or Jade collection! This came from my father's collection, who was in the fine arts and antique business for many years. Please email with any questions or for more photos.
